How Long Does Access Card Duplication Take in Singapore?

One of the most common questions we get is how long the whole process takes. The honest answer: for most cards, it's faster than you'd expect.

⚡ Most access cards are duplicated in 5–20 minutes. Walk in, wait briefly, walk out with a working copy.

That said, the exact time depends on your card type. Here's a full breakdown.

Duplication Time by Card Type

5 mins

EM4100 / HID Proximity

Unencrypted 125kHz cards. The fastest to duplicate — read, copy, done. Common in older HDB blocks and offices.

10–20 mins

Mifare Classic / Indala / Viking

Encrypted 13.56MHz cards. The most common type in Singapore condos and BTO flats. Slightly longer due to encryption.

20–30 mins

Mifare Ultralight / DESFire / SecuraKey

Higher-security Mifare variants. Used in premium condos and Grade A offices. More complex encryption = more time.

30–45 mins

HID iClass / SE

The most complex card type. Specialist equipment required. WhatsApp us first to confirm your variant can be duplicated.

What Happens During the Duplication Process?

The process is straightforward:

  1. Card reading — we place your original card on our reader to extract the chip data. This takes 1–2 minutes for simple cards, longer for encrypted ones.
  2. Data processing — for encrypted cards, we decode the data before writing. This is where most of the time goes for Mifare DESFire and HID iClass cards.
  3. Writing to blank card — we write the data onto a new blank card with the correct chip type. Takes 1–2 minutes.
  4. Testing — we test the duplicate card before you leave to confirm it works correctly.

What Can Slow It Down?

In most cases, duplication takes exactly as long as stated above. But a few factors can add time:

  • Unusual encryption variants — some buildings configure their access system with non-standard settings. Our technician may need extra time to handle these.
  • Damaged or worn cards — if your original card is scratched, bent, or partially demagnetised, reading it takes longer and may require multiple attempts.
  • Multiple cards in one visit — time multiplies per card. If you're doing 5 cards at once, budget accordingly.
  • Walk-in queue — we operate on a walk-in basis, so if there are customers ahead of you, you may need to wait. WhatsApp us first to check availability.

💡 Pro tip: WhatsApp us a photo of your card before visiting. We'll confirm your card type, give you an accurate time estimate, and let you know if there's a queue. Saves you an unnecessary wait.

How Does This Compare to Going Through Management?

Getting a replacement card through your condo or HDB management office typically takes 1–7 working days — and costs significantly more. You'll usually need to fill in a form, provide ID, and pay an administrative fee on top of the card cost.

CopyCard's walk-in service takes 5–45 minutes, costs less, and requires nothing more than your original card.

Can I Wait While the Card Is Being Duplicated?

Yes — and most customers do. Both our Yio Chu Kang and Bedok outlets have waiting space. For standard cards (EM4100 and Mifare Classic), the wait is short enough that most people simply stand by while we work.

For longer jobs (DESFire, HID iClass), you're welcome to wait or step out briefly — we'll WhatsApp you when it's ready.
